The Great Stone Bridge Trust of Edenbridge may have been established as early as 1511, caring for the original stone bridge which crossed the River Eden. The Trust was endowed with money and properties near the bridge to produce income for maintenance, also providing charitable assistance to residents of the town.
Now no longer responsible for bridge upkeep, the Trust uses its income for the charitable benefit of the inhabitants of Edenbridge, supporting clubs, societies and organisations as well as giving educational grants to individuals and educational establishments.
